Desert Hills

Revision 7/6/2020

Desert hills hover

An indigo shadow

Caught in the twilight

Drifting, they float in the vanishing light

I sit on the pindan earth

 Between Boy and Girl hill

Immersed in spinifex and wattle

A sea of yellow grass

Night draws the last ribbons of light

 Into the horizon

Soothing the russet memory of day

Into hushing silence

Revision 14/08/2016:

Desert hills hover over an indigo shadow,

Caught in the coming night as they drift and

Float in the fading light.

Spinifex and wattle are sparse.

I sit in the dust

On the pindan track

That divides a sea of yellow grass.

I lie on my back and

Surrender to the inescapable blue

As twilight pulls the sun's final streams

Into the hushing horizon

And turns the sky to dusk.

Old version:

Desert hills hover over an indigo shadow,

Caught in the coming night as they drift and

Float in the fading light.

Spinifex and wattle are sparse.

I sit in the dust; on the road that is red sand

Surrounded by a sea of yellow grass.

I lie on my back and surrender to the inescapable blue,

As twilight pulls the sun's final streams into the hushing horizon

and turns the sky to dusk.
