The Empty Field

I passed the field today, Love,

The field with the bull and the lamb.

But the gate to the field was open

And the bull and the lamb were gone.

We wondered why they were together,

And we asked the farmer why.

‘They’re company for each other,

He likes to have her by’.

But now the field is empty.

Tussocks of yellow and brown

Cover the grass that grew there,

And the bull and the lamb are gone.
