Your Cracked Heel

Revision 14/08/2016:

The skin on your heel

Is cracked red like the pindan ground.

Meandering tracks are like veins in a leaf,

Desert canyons.

The skin on your heal resembles

The silhouette of a Wonai tree

Against the sinking sun,

Anastomosis.

The shadow of your soul

Is where all the bones meet and

Where your skin presses hard against the ground,

Free from shoes.

Reddened in the iron stained dust

In the shade of the Palmdanas

That spiral to the sky,

The Emu wears a crown of swirling stars.

Old version:

The skin on your heel

Cracked red like the pindan ground;

A course of meandering tracks.

Veins and canyons

Resemble the silhouette of the Wonai tree against the sinking sun.

The shadow of your soul

Where all the bones meet

Where the skin presses against the Earth and remains free from shoes.

Reddened in the iron stained dust

In the shade of the Palmdanas

That spirals to the stars,

Where an Emu wears a crown.
